On a December day in 1866, a young man named Erasmus Jacobs found a transparent and very shiny stone on his father's farm that was located alongside the Orange River. This turned out to be the first of what would become an avalanche of diamonds from the South African mines, and would start one of the world's greatest monopolies that would last for over 100 years. There were two important events that combined to make this one of the most momentous events in world economic history.

It comes as a great surprise to many consumers that a professional license is required to appraise a $250K house, but absolutely no professional license is required to appraise $900K worth of jewelry sitting inside that house. Perhaps more surprised were the lawyers involved in the Tibet andesine fraud litigation when they realized that the gemology/appraisal industry has absolutely no professional standards or oversight. The fact is, there is no professional license required to offer services as a gemologist or jewelry appraiser, and with that is the compounded problem that none of the major gemology schools require any kind of re-certification or formal continuing education hours to maintain the status of their diplomas. At the ISG we believe the current conditions described above do not best serve the interests of consumers or the industry. For this reason the ISG maintains the highest standards in the industry for both our own professional licenses, and the professional status of our ISG Registered Gemologists and Registered Gemologist Appraisers.

When you visit the ISG Booth 428 at the JCK Tucson Show at Starr Pass Marriott you are not going to be seeing the same promotional brochures and guys in suits standing around impressing you with how they are the "foremost authority" in the universe regarding gemology. Nope, this is not the same old fashioned, high priced gemology school you may be used to. We have fun. We share. We learn. And more important we care about your success. When you come to the ISG Booth 428 at the JCK Tucson Show you can expect an experience like no other gemology/appraisal school in the world. When you are ready to experience the next generation in world class gemology and appraisal training at prices you can afford, then you are ready to visit the ISG at JCK Tucson 2015. But don't come over here expecting a sale pitch.

As promised yesterday, today we look at some of the amazing things we have found over the years at the Tucson Gem Shows. The problem is...we had over 100 photographs lined up and had to cut it down to a few of the more notable shown below. One of our favorites is the amazing collection of phantom quartz crystals available there. At left is one of these amazing phantom crystals with a higher magnification look in the banner at the top of the page. Just about anything you can imagine in the form of gems and minerals will be found in Tucson.
